San
Carlos Council 2596 was founded on January 17, 1926. At
that
time the Council meetings were held in a hut on what is now the St.
Francis
Xavier School grounds, behind the old St. Francis Xavier Church.
The first building for the Council had been used as a barracks in World
War I and was moved to Ft. Myers from Arcadia by the Pavese
brothers.
About 1956, the Council purchased a home on Grand Avenue which was used
until 1968, when a new, spacious Knights of Columbus Hall was built on
Park Meadows Drive, just south of the city. In 2004, the Council
moved to its current location on Princeton Street in Fort Myers,
formerly
the Club Riveran property. Council 2596 works closely with St.
Francis
Xavier, St. Cecilia, and Resurrection of Our Lord Parishes. Most
members of San Carlos Council 2596 are active participants in these
parishes.
